The first video of the Medieval Inspired Princess Gown Making Of series which will go through the construction process of how this red/burgundy/maroon princess dress was made. This is inspired by Guinevere’s gown that she wears when she is queen from the BBC TV series Merlin. However, we have decided to break up this dress into multiple components so the dress can be worn on multiple occasions, including in the modern day as a formal or prom dress.
This video is the first and so it is all about the construction process of the corset which is built into the dress. In medieval times, they wouldn’t have worn corsets but I couldn’t figure out any other way to have the dress lie flat against the stomach and be off-the-shoulder. Looking at photos of the dress from the TV show, it is clear that the actress is definitely wearing something with structure and boning. Since the show is fantasy and not needing to be historically accurate, I assumed the costume designer would have taken some liberties in this.

About Me:
A dreamer, thinker, and lover of all things sewing, fantasy and costume related.
I am a sewing hobbyist and lover of fantasy and historical costumes, but I also dabble in modern garment alterations sometimes.
When first starting this YouTube channel, I had so many designs, ideas and concepts for fantasy movie costumes, which I illustrated through the use of photoshop. Now my interests lie with actually physically making and creating.
Of course, I don’t have the time and resources to make garments as spectacular as my photoshop designs, but I am still able to enjoy the process of constructing simpler items from start to finish.
On this channel, you will find a wealth of sewing diary vlogs in which I share my sewing journey and thoughts. I am an avid watcher of fellow seamstresses here on YouTube (among my favourites include Angela Clayton, Bernadette Banner, Morgan Donner and Micarah Tewers) and so I thought that I would join in on the fun and upload some content of my own. Hopefully it’s helpful to someone out there!
