Solaris 11 Upgrade TEXT to GUI

More videos like this online at In this video we look at taking a text only intsall of Oracle Solaris 11 and adding the GUI to it. We will do this safely using Boot Enviorments so if we have issues with the GUI we can roll back to our saved BE. This is easy within Solaris 11 and we can make use of the ZFS filesystem that goes way beyond the capabilities of what you may expect. So first we will create an new BE with BEADM create and then mount the BE to a temporary directory and install the GUI to that BE, or snapshot of our system. We will now have two BE that we can choose to boot to, the original Solaris image and now our new GUI. When we want to test the GUI we activate the GUI BE and if that is ok we can delete or “destroy“ the old BE.
