Protesting farmers ’bombard’ riot police with manure as they clash in Brussels

Tractors were driven through police barricades in Brussels and water cannons used on February 26 as farmers arrived again in the Belgian capital for their continued protests against EU-led sectoral reforms. According to the Brussels Times, hundreds of tractors flooded into Brussels on the morning of a meeting of EU agriculture ministers. The paper said police were being “bombarded” with dung, and responded with tear gas. Footage here shows police using a water cannon against tractors near the EU Council Building. The uncustomary “stench of manure” was in the air in Brussels on February 26, Politico said, as protesting farmers again descended on the EU capital, in time for a meeting of the bloc’s agriculture ministers. According to the Brussels Times, police were being “bombarded” with dung, and responded with tear gas and water cannons. Tractors were also seen driving through barricades.
