OH BABY, The Four Bel’Aires, Unreleased (X-TRA) 1958 Here is another really great unknown ballad from my music collection. The Four Bel’Aires aka The Belairs hailed from Georgetown, Washington DC. Group members were Alfred “Nookie“ Robinson (lead/1st tenor), Warren Ricks (2nd tenor), Robert “Slick“ Russell (baritone) and Vernon Ricks (bass). The start of The Four Bel’Aires was at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Georgetown, D.C. There, in 1955, Vernon Ricks and Robert “Slick“ Russell started harmonizing on R&B songs when they worked in the kitchen on Sunday mornings. They were eventually joined by Alfred “Nookie“ Robinson (whose name is usually shown, incorrectly, as “Albert“). Finally, when they sounded like they had a shot at fame and fortune, Vernon brought in his cousin Warren Ricks, and The Four Bel-Aires were born.
