Team Europe Initiative on Vaccines, Medicines and Health Technologies | Paris Peace Forum 2021

This session is co-organized with the European Commission. COVID-19 highlighted vulnerabilities of global supply chains. Africa currently imports 99% of vaccines and over 90% of medicines. In April 2021, the African Union launched the Partnership for African Vaccine Manufacturing with the objective of moving from dependency to health sovereignty. In response, in May President von der Leyen announced the Team Europe Initiative on local manufacturing at the Global Health Summit. Leveraging resources from the EU Commission, financing institutions, Member States and the private sector, the initiative offers a 360-degree solution encompassing actions on the supply side, the demand side and to underpin the enabling environment.
