Amid a wave of bloody clashes between protesters and the police, Haitian president Michel Martelly stepped down from office on Sunday, leaving the Caribbean nation with no successor. On Saturday, with less than 24 hours before Martelly’s scheduled departure, Haiti’s parliament drafted an agreement allowing the election of an interim president for a four-month term.
