Concert: The Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble
_german version below_
*THE EVAN PARKER ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC ENSEMBLE*
With Evan Parker and his Electro-Acoustic Ensemble we had one of the most renowned contemporary ensembles as a guest at the University for Music and Drama (HfMT) in Hamburg - an ensemble which has been breaking new ground in combining improvisation and technology, jazz and contemporary music for almost three decades.
As part of SPIIC (Studio for Polystylistic Improvisation and Interdisciplinary Crossover @ Innovative Hochschule/ Stage_2.0), we had the opportunity to engage in an intensive dialogue with the members of the ensemble in a three-day hybrid lecture/workshop/concert event, experiencing and exploring their work and music through direct interaction, collaborative playing, and theoretical reflection.
Saxophonist Evan Parker is one of the most influential musicians of his generation. Like no other contemporary musician, he has both revolutionized saxophone playing, and through his many musical contributions decisively shaped and molded the history of music over the past 50 years. He was joined by Matthew Wright, Adam Linson, Percy Pursglove and Mark Nauseef - four other musical personalities who are among the leading international protagonists both as instrumentalists and as scholars.
This project was characterized by a special feature: the evening concerts took place simultaneously in front of audiences in Hamburg and the UK, as Evan Parker and Matthew Wright were connected via an interactive live-stream feed from Faversham near London, to the ensemble in Hamburg. This should not be seen as merely a concession to the ongoing Corona pandemic situation but more importantly as an exploration of new concert formats and collaborative practices based on recent technological developments.

SPIIC MEETS: EVAN PARKER ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC ENSEMBLE
