This Week in Volcano News; Sakurajima Evacuations, Raung Produces a New Eruption

In the last week, evacuations were ordered around the Sakurajima volcano due to an unusually large explosive eruption. Meanwhile, in Indonesia there was a major change at the Raung volcano in Indonesia. Significant levels of harmonic tremor indicating the movement of magma and volcanic gasses were detected, indicating a fresh intrusion of magma at shallow depths. Several days later, this volcano erupted, following an upward trend which had been ongoing for several months. And, on the border of Ecuador and Colombia, the Cerro Negro Chiles volcano produced a large magnitude earthquake.
