The song competed directly with the very popular rock and pop songs of the timer including hits from the Beatles and The Rolling Stones! In the US it became number 1 in the pop charts. The full soundtrack from the movie won a Silver Ribbon award at the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists in 1968 and was nominated for both a BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards.
