Anton Baranov plays Melody & Scherzo by N. Aleksandrov (1818- 1895)

The name of Nikolay Aleskandrov (1818- 1895) is mostly unknown today, but back to the second half of 19th century Russia he was one of the top 7-string guitar figures togather with Andrei Sychra (1773 - 1850) and Mikhail Vysotsky (1791 - 1937). Here are two pieces as an example of how might russian 7-string guitar music sound like: 00:00 Melody original key C-major has been changed for D- major 02:43 Scherzo e-minor key remains the same, but the original ’rondo-like’ shape of the piece has been changed a bit Aleksandrov’s heritage consists of mostly didactical stuff (exercises and etudes)and small pieces. One can some find his works in Boije’s online collection These two pieces has been adapted for 6-string guitar by Sergey Rudnev, fantastic composer who built solid repertory for guitar based on russian folk music.
