The BRUTAL Execution Of Robespierre - The Leader Of The Reign Of Terror

Following the French Revolution there was great upheaval within France. The execution of King Louis XVI and his Queen Marie Antoinette led to a great amount of instability, and there was a period of time known as ’The Reign of Terror.’ This was when in months 17,000 people were executed using the guillotine and many were beaten up in the streets if they even spoke out any criticism against the Revolution. The leader at the time in France was Maximilien Robespierre. He was seen as a revolutionary leader, but he instigated the bloodshed in the aftermath of the King’s execution. But despite this, Robespierre himself would fall sharply from grace and he would himself be arrested by the National Convention. The wanted an end of the brutality of the Terror, and with this Robespierre was quickly taken to the guillotine in Paris.
