A rejtélyt a juhászlegény oldja meg. Kilesi a lányokat, és még a pokolba is követi őket, ahol látja, hogy az ördöggel hajnalig borotvákon táncolva-mulatva kopnak el a lányok papucsai. Bizonyítékokat gyűjt, s ezeket felmutatván az öreg királynak megoldja a rejtélyt. A shepherd boy solves the mystery. He watches the girts and even follows them to hell, where the girls’ slippers are torn, because they sing and dance with the devil ’til dawn.
