Amazing Grace: The History of the Slave Scale

Wintley Phipps shares how just about all negro spirituals are written on the black notes of the piano. In early American history, it was called the slave scale. He plays what some think is the most famous white spiritual built on the slave scale or just the black notes. John Newton was a slave trader before God saved him and Phipps gives a little history on how Newton came up with “Amazing Grace.“ Finally he sings a magnificent rendition of the song. As Christians it doesn’t matter whether you are black or white, free or slave, we are all connected in God’s eyes by amazing grace!
