The next pieces of this project are the tool rest and the tailstock.
They both ride on the rail like the headstock does. If you want to see
more on how they work and are made, see my first video in this series.
In the plans, they call for a threaded rod to be ground to a point, and
mounted in some t-nuts to act as the tailstock. Instead of doing that,
I used an old drill chuck and mounted it’s bearings in a series of
flanges. This arrangement allows for me to chuck drill bits into the
tailstock, as well as
