’Diamonds’ by Chris Rea found its biggest success here in Australia when it made the Top 15 in 1979. I can still recall sitting in our family lounge room playing ’Chartbusters Vol 1“ an EMI records Various Artists Compilation; featuring Chris Rea, Melissa Manchester, Racey, Hot Chocolate and Dr Hook among many others. I had loved Chris Rea’s ’Fool (If You Think It’s Over) the year before, so when the rollicking ’Diamonds’ was issued in 1979, it was an instant favorite and I’m so pleased that Australia got behind it, and Rea visited our shores to promote the song; helping it climb even further on the Top 40. This original (longer) album version from his LP ’Deltics’ has simply more to love! I’ve re-edited a performance clip to the extended version. I hope all who discover it, enjoy it as much as I have.
