A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck China’s remote northwestern Qinghai province. The epicenter was located about 111 km of Jinchang and 140 km of Xioning. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km. A aftershock followed about 25 minutes later. There are five villages within 5 km of the epicenter. The quake damaged several tunnels on the Lanzhou-Xinjiang railway. Some houses were destroyed very seriously. Also has broken windows and cracks in buildings. More then 10 000 people are estimated to have felt strong shaking.
