🌐English subtitles. 🌊 Get ready to take your ship modeling skills to the next level! In this video, I’ll be showing you how to create a flawless first layer of planking for your ship model. We’ll start by creating a polystyrene foam insert that will serve as the foundation for our planking. From there, I’ll guide you through the process of planking the wall and body of your ship model. But planking is more than just laying down wood - I’ll also cover how to calculate the number and size of planks you’ll need, how to apply putty to your model hull, how to cut boards, and how to remove any pesky glue residue. By the end of this video, you’ll have a smooth and correct surface, perfectly primed for final planking. The model is based on a 1/65 scale kit from Amati. As Amati ship model kits are often simplified for easier assembly, I will significantly modify or correct certain elements. To gain a better understanding of how to revamp these construction elements, I am using available materials on ship modeling, researching information about 15th-16th century sailboats from the internet, and referring to Xavier Pastor’s book “The Ships of Christopher Columbus. Santa Maria, Niña, Pinta“ from the Anatomy of the Ship collection. However, since there is very little evidence of what Columbus’s ships actually looked like, I will allow myself some creative freedom when building this sailboat model.
