# 8. Side Planking. Columbus Santa Maria. Scale 1/65

🌐English subtitles. ⛵Today, I’ll be demonstrating how I created a second layer of side planking for the Santa Maria ship model hull. I’ll be sharing my approach to planking, as well as the tools I’ve made and use to make the process easier. 📺🍔🍟So sit back, relax, and enjoy the video as I guide you through the steps and techniques I used to accomplish this project. ------------------------------------- Other videos from the Santa Maria series: ------------------------------------- In this video series, I am constructing a model of the Santa Maria sailboat - the largest ship from Christopher Columbus’s 1492 expedition. The model is based on a 1/65 scale kit from Amati. As Amati ship model kits are often simplified for easier assembly, I am making significant modifications and corrections to certain elements. To gain a better understanding of how to revamp these construction elements, I am utilizing various resources, such as ship modeling materials, online information about 15th-16th century sailboats, and Xavier Pastor’s book “The Ships of Christopher Columbus. Santa Maria, Niña, Pinta“ from the Anatomy of the Ship collection, etc. However, due to the limited evidence available regarding the appearance of Columbus’s ships, I am allowing myself some creative freedom when building this sailboat model.
