4 days, One Minute - Volcanic Eruption in Geldingadalir Iceland - Time-Lapse
Four day time-lapse video made from the Icelandic National Broadcasting Services live stream of the volcanic eruption in Geldingahraun on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland. The video spans about four days in less than a minute.
Weather in Iceland can be unpredictable so a lot of frames had to be cut out due to low visibility. Viewing of the video should be more pleasant without the constant change in weather and differences in brightness.
Lava started pouring out from a fissure in the evening of Mars 19t and continues to the making of this video.
The eruption is the first on the Reykjanes peninsula in almost 800 years. Scientists suspect this to be the beginning of increasing volcanic activity with more eruptions in the area for the next centuries.
This eruption is expected to last for quite some time, months and even years. The lava has a chemical signature of a deep origin and the volcano is therefore suspected to be feed by a large reservoir of molten lava.
