This song is off of Full Moon Fever. Tom Petty’s first solo record in 1989. It’s a great tune off an outstanding album. Really, it’s almost a Heartbreakers record as so many of them played on these songs. But, as a solo record, it allowed Tom to use anyone he liked on each song. The drums on this Campbell/Petty tune was Jim Keltner. The guy who played the drums on all the Wilburys songs. Also, you can hear Howie Epstein’s great background vocals at the end. And of course, since Mike Campbell wrote the chords and feel; he’s all over this song as well. It’s really about a motorcycle. Those fast, syncopated chords are supposed to be gear changes!
