The fifth album to the Pestilence discography. ’Resurrection Macabre’ marked the return of the Dutch Death Metal group after a 16 year long hiatus. The tone and riffs on the record are probably the most ’brutal’ they’ve ever done, and are actually pretty catchy too! Pete Wildoer shows up as a guest addition for the drums and does a damn good job shredding those cymbals and snares. Mameli also does a remarkable job on the vocals, probably the best he’s ever done in my opinion. However, do I consider this ’technical death metal’, like the long-time frontman Mameli stated it to I do not. That achievement will have to go to ’Spheres’, ’Testimony’, and ’Malleus Maleficarum’. If you want complex song structure, then check out those albums from Pestilence. However, if you enjoyed the brutality on their famous ’Consuming Impulse’, you will more than likely enjoy ’Resurrection Macabre’.
