What is branding? What is marketing? What is the difference between branding and marketing? What should come first? Which is more important, branding or marketing? Donald Miller, author of Building A Story Brand recently put it out there that marketing is the first and most important thing you do as a company. Fabian and Melinda react to Donald Miller. Marketing is what you say it is. Branding is what they say it is. “Here’s the simplest, most jargon-free, definition of marketing you’re ever likely to come across: If the circus is coming to town and you paint a sign saying “Circus Coming to the Showground Saturday,” that’s advertising. If you put the sign on the back of an elephant and walk it into town, that’s promotion.
