Urgent UN SC meeting on Afghanistan useful only if it helps to start business negotiations – Lavrov

An urgent meeting of the UN Security Council will be useful only if it helps to start business discussions on the situation in Afghanistan said Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday in Rostov-on-Don. “Now the Afghan representatives are asking the UN to convene an urgent meeting of the Security Council. It will be useful if they meet not only to discuss [the situation] and work off their anger on each other but if they meet on the basis of a prepared result that will help start business negotiations without trying to manoeuvre,“ the Russian minister stated.
