Humpback whales breaching water surprise family off Newfoundland coast

Two humpback whales surprised a family that were on a boat off the coast of Newfoundland in Conception Bay on Sunday when the whales breached the water multiple times, with Sean Russell capturing the moments on video. The whales jumped into the air several times, creating large splashes in the distance, with the first breaches causing Russell’s daughter to look in surprise at the camera. The first two breaches appear to have happened near their boat, before the mammals breached again further away, with Russell saying it was “beautiful“ and his daughter saying “show-off.“ “It’s not uncommon to have whales around the boat,” Russell told Global News on Monday. “The whales are usually around and eating there, too.”
