Doing a quick little sketch of your scene can be so important to plan a composition and values before painting. It can also help in watercolor to plan the painting stages. Here I paint the Jade Emperor Pagoda in Vietnam - a Chinese Temple and Chinese Lanterns. A very different subject for me than I normally paint.
