Afghanistan: At least 5 killed, 12 wounded after mortar attack in Zabul province

Wounded civilians could be seen receiving medical treatment at the Zabul Hospital, in Qalat after a mortar round landed in a neighbourhood in the city killing at least five people and injuring 12, on Thursday. Three women and two children were among the victims. The incident was reportedly caused by clashes between government forces and Taliban fighters. The wounded civilians are currently treated at a local hospital. “Around 11:00 PM (18:30 GMT) at least 11 wounded were transferred to the Zabul provincial hospital,“ said Dr Nazair Harifal, head of Zabul provincial hospital. “All the wounded people received medical treatment and three of them were successfully operated and will be healthy,“ he added. “The wounded are my cousin and brothers, they are all the people of the villages, the mortar arrived and landed in our village that killed at least 5 people, and wounded our members,“ a man at the hospital told. “It was evening time I was sitting with my friends a
