Protesting supporters of Tehreek-e-Labiak Pakistan (TLP) party arrived in Islamabad from different cities across the country, travelled in cars and motorcycles along the city’s main avenue, while chanting pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli slogans. Police made stringent security arrangements and sealed all roads leading to the red zone, where most parliament and government office buildings are located. Protesters waved Palestinian flags and banners with slogans expressing solidarity with Gaza. This the second big rally in support for Palestinians within a week. Last Sunday Jamaat-e-Islami party, one of Pakistan’s biggest Islamist parties, held a massive rally in Islamabad accusing the United States of “backing the aggressor.” Hamas leader Ismail Hannia also addressed the TLP rally, dubbed as Al-Aqsa Million March, through a video link.
