Indonesia Volcano Eruption 2023: A tragic volcanic eruption on Mount Marapi in western Indonesia claimed several lives. At least 11 hikers have been found dead after a volcano erupted in western Indonesia. Located on the island of Sumatra, Mount Marapi erupted on December 3. The 2,891-metre-high volcano spewed ash as high as 9,843 ft into the air. The videos of the black smoke rising from the volcano went viral on social media. Falling ash reportedly covered several villages and blocked sunlight. According to reports, around 75 climbers were stuck at the time the volcano erupted.
