U.S. Invasion of Grenada / Operation Urgent Fury 1983

The Caribbean island of Grenada gained independence from Great Britain in 1974. Over the next years the country became more and more unstable. This development climaxed in 1983. U.S. President Ronald Reagan decided to invade Grenada and prevent the country falling under socialist influence. The operation Urgent Fury lasted from 25 October to 15 December 1983. All branches of the U.S. military were involved as well as peacekeeping troops from the Caribbean.
