Плотию уснув (Plotiyu usnuv)–Русский хор Йельского университета
Yale Russian Chorus: Plotiyu usnuv (Having Fallen Asleep in the Flesh). This is a hymn of the Resurrection, sung during the Easter Vigil. This setting is by Alexander Glazunov (1865-1936), composer, conductor and professor (later director) of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Dating from 1935, it is based on a melody from the Greek chant and uses open fifths and melismas to create a remarkable archaic sound. It is one of two liturgical compositions commissioned from Glazunov by the new church dedicated in 1925 to St. Sergius in Paris.
Bruce Lieberman, Conductor. Recorded in Woolsey Hall at Yale University, March 1970.
