Muay Boran Upwards Elbow Block (Soei Khun)- step by step instruction
What
Forward high elbow block. This is a simple yet highly effective way to protect your face against straight punches or grabs. The defender raises his elbow in front of his nose creating a sharp point that impacts against the knuckles or hand of the opponent.
Why
This is a typical Muay Boran Aggressive Defense. In fact, while we protect our face we simultaneously damage the opponent’s body weapon. The harder he strikes the more pain he feels (and the more he damages his hand).
Options of counterattack
After the high elbow block the defender can easily counter with a punch (swing or straight) or elbow blow (horizontal elbow) to the head or a straight knee or swing kick to the opponent’s exposed body (lower abdomen, floating ribs, liver, spleen).
