Opening the Guard Upwards (Poed Su) - step by step instruction
What
Poed means “to open”. In fact, when we apply this defensive strategy against a punch, we deflect the attack while opening and penetrating into the opponent’s guard with one or two arms. In the application shown in the video (Poed Su defensive technique), we cut diagonally upwards into the opponent’s attack with an out-stretched arm.
Why
This technique is used to create an opening in the opponent’s guard, thus exposing his center line to many possible counterattacks.
Options of counterattack
After opening the opponent’s guard upwards, the defender can easily counter with a downward elbow strike to the head, neck or face. Otherwise, a straight knee or a diagonal knee can be aimed at the opponent’s lower body (groin, lower abdomen).
How
In the video, pay attention to:
-the defender’s out-stretched arm
-the defender’s body position (leaning forward)
-the point of contact between the attacker’s and the defend
