Sergey Ponomarev is a Russian photographer whose work has taken him to places few Western reporters have been allowed to see. Over the years, Ponomarev gained rare access to one of Assad’s notorious prisons, documented the Russian Army’s annexation of Crimea, and photographed the Kremlin’s brutal crackdown on pro-Navalny protests.
