Today marks 10 years since Hurricane Katrina clobbered beautiful New Orleans, Louisiana, and America’s Gulf Coast. It was a natural disaster compounded by fear and desperation on the part of local officials, and by incompetence on the part of George W. Bush’s administration.
To honor this occasion, I am posting the opening title sequence from “Treme,“ David Simon’s superb 2010-2013 HBO-TV series set in post-Katrina New Orleans. Among the show’s stars were Khandi Alexander, Rob Brown, Kim Dickens, India Ennenga, John Goodman, Michiel Huisman, Melissa Leo, Lucia Micarelli, David Morse, Clarke Peters, Wendell Pierce, and Steve Zahn. As Wikipedia explains, “The series takes its name from Tremé, a neighborhood of New Orleans. It begins three months after Hurricane Katrina, as the residents, including musicians, chefs, Mardi Gras Indians, and other New Orleanians, try to rebuild their lives, their homes, and their unique cult
