USA Now! The storm in California became historic! People are hiding in the tunnels!

Tropical Storm Hilary has reached the US state of California after bringing strong winds and flooding to Mexico’s Pacific coast. It hit Mexico’s Baja California peninsula with winds of 70 mph (119 km/h). One man died there while trying to cross a creek in his car. Several homes in the town of Santa Rosalia are currently flooded. Hilary will weaken as it moves north, but this is the first tropical storm to hit California in 84 years. The last time a tropical storm made landfall in Southern California was in Long Beach in 1939. Experts say the recent abnormal weather events that have affected the U.S. and several regions around the world have been caused by man-made climate change . The storm hit the northern part of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula at 11:00 local time (18:00 GMT) on Sunday, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. It warned that Hilary could cause “life-threatening“ flooding in both Mexico and the US. In Mexico, 18,000 soldiers have been placed on standby to assist in rescue operations. Local authorities said the man who died in southern Baja California state was in a car with his wife and children - his family survived.
