Nouvele Amor and Cantiga 139 (Maravillosos e pïadosos)

Medieval music from France and Gallicia: Shira Kammen, vielle; Peter Maund, frame drum & Hanneke van Proosdij, recorder perform “Nouvele Amor“, a seamless blending of the Trouvère/Troubadour song Nouvele Amor and Cantiga 139, Maravillosos e pïadosos. The Cantigas were written by Alfonso X (El Sabio). These songs only survive as a single melodic line, and the performers improvise the other parts as well as the variations.
