Taiwanese Vice President Lai Ching-te is seeking to reassure voters and the international community that he’s a steady set of hands as he campaigns to become the self-governed island’s next leader. The leading presidential candidate says he will maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait and not disrupt the status quo, while blaming Beijing for escalating tensions.
