Ukraine’s Air Force says 52 out of 54 Shahed drones launched by Russia in its assault on Ukraine had been destroyed by its forces. The use of such a large number of drones in a sustained attack may be an effort by Russia’s army to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defences. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed his country’s air defence forces and rescue services after the drone attacks. Meanwhile, Russia said that it shot down 12 Ukrainian drones over various settlements over the course of 24 hours. Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin says he is convinced that Kremlin has banned state media from reporting on him. Russia has warned that Western supplies of weapons to Ukraine risk escalating the war to levels not seen so far. Russia’s top diplomat has warned that Western nations were “playing with fire” by approving F-16s for Ukraine. Belarus strongman Alexander Lukashenko claims that Putin will give nuclear weapons to any country that joins their union state. Russia has seen more calls to force society to work in service of the war effort, the UK Defence Ministry said.
