244 J. S. Bach - Matthäus Passion for children, BWV 244 (Clean hands) - Amsterdam Baroque Choir and Orchestra [Ton Koopman]
Ton Koopman, Marieke Koopman and Boudewijn Scholten will bring a special children’s concert in April 2018 under the name Hemel en aarde, a new version of Schone handen. Koopman made for children from six years a concise selection of choirs and arias from the St. Matthew Passion, which he performs exactly as Bach conceived it, with choir, soloists and orchestra. Actress Marieke Koopman plays the daughter of stadtholder Pontius Pilate, she asks her father penetrating questions about Jesus’ fate. The time-honored passion story is still very current today. Discrimination, prejudice, hatred, the designation of a scapegoat, injustice and betrayal are subjects that are not strange to children. This compelling story with dilemmas that have been made accessible to children in Bach’s beautiful music is an experience for all ages.
