KOSOVO: NEW ATTACKS REPORTED THROUGHOUT PROVINCE

(18 Oct 1998) Natural Sound Although NATO has given Yugoslav President Milosevic until October 27th to fulfill his peace pledge, new attacks are being reported throughout Kosovo. In one incident, three Serb policemen were killed. Their colleagues blame the deaths on a K-L-A grenade attack on the house they were occupying in Orlate, southwest of the capital Pristina. Crouched in darkness, Serbian police complain they have become sitting ducks for Kosovo Liberation Army (K-L-A) attackers. Serb police say the peace agreement signed by Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic prevents them from responding to separatist rebels. They are powerless to prevent K-L-A attacks which they claim are intended to provoke fighting and NATO airstrikes on Yugoslav military targets. On Saturday, as Serbian police set up 20 miles (30 kilometres) southwest of the Pristina, they say three of their colleagues were killed in a grenade attack by K-L-A rebels, and two others seriously wounded.
