Body Isolation Drills & Incorporating Isolations into Basics (Jordan and Tatiana Workshop Weekend)

Notes are primarily for leads. Warmup: - Shoulder roll, 2 counts on each side, for two sets of 8 counts - Ribcage isolation, 1 then 2 then triple. Can also include shoulder roll, but be sure you’re doing ribcage isolation and now just shifting shoulders. Keep elbows bent - arms should not be hanging down at sides. - Ribcage isolations with weight transfers. Triple step in a direction this time. - Traveling triple-step ribcage isolations - Staccato triple steps. Throw arms forward then back, like a ^ shape (or a V shape but backward) - Slow roll. Land on toes of foot and roll onto heel over three counts while turning upper body. Can bend knee slightly on last count, but make sure you’re not bending your knee through all 3 counts. Hand on chest to emphasize this move. Incorporating styling into a pattern: - Regular right side pass but cross feet on 5 while doing a shoulder roll starting with the left shoulder, uncrossing the right foot by 6. Basically you will cross on 5 (shoulder isolation starting with left), left foot doing the ’and’ part of the triple (shoulder isolation finishes), then uncrossing the right foot (restoring the frame). - Sugar push (’push break’). Jordan does it with some slight travel to the right. - Another right side pass, but don’t look at follow as she passes by, instead doing an exaggerated head turn on 3 while dragging right arm across chest and slowly doing weight transfer to left leg, anchor up on counts 5 & 6 as normal. - Sugar push: Immediately dip on 4 (after the compression push) and pull right hand connection toward you while pushing left hand connection away. You’re still tripling 5 & 6 for the anchor, rising on 6 to restore frame. - Sugar tuck with small steps. Basically not traveling at all. - Right side pass where you hold 4 then tripling to the left, dragging right foot across in last triple. Then triple to the right, dragging left foot across. Keep right elbow bent and not hanging during these triples!
