Three hours ago, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake rocked the coastal province of Guayas in Ecuador. The epicenter was 80 kilometers south of Guayaquil, home to more than 3 million people. In Guayaquil, cracks in buildings are reported, as well as the collapse of some walls. At least four people are reported dead. The authorities ordered the closure of three road tunnels. A pier sank in the city of Machala. Experts say there is no tsunami threat. President Guillermo Lasso asked residents to remain calm. The earthquake was also felt in northern Peru.
