Old English Garden Fete (1927)

Item title reads: “ Old English Garden fete. In aid of the Hospitals - opened by Princess Royal. Hundreds of babies in competition, arranged by Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, for best ’movie’ face...“ Regents Park, London M/S as the Princess Royal is greeted by men and women holding babies. There are some young girls wearing hooped crinoline dresses, and frilled bonnets, - one smiles, posing while locked in stocks. Another sits smiling with her legs locked in stocks. Two of the girls sit astride a slippery pole, which can be turned, or rolled. It has a hobby horse front. They both tumble off, laughing as it is rolled. C/U shots of babies and toddlers seated all together, some with mothers or nurses. It could be a beautiful baby competition. Lots of fair faces and blond curls. A smiling mother holds up her toddler boy and poses, and another holds her little girl, who points toward the camera. Intertitles read: ’Douglas Fairbanks’ , ’ future world’s sweetheart’ Note: sweet shots of British children.
