World’s Largest Swimming Class (1927)

Item title reads: “World’s Largest Swimming Class. Boys of Newport Training School take the water “en masse“ following order that every man in Navy must be able to swim.“ Newport, United States of America (USA). M/S of long lines of Naval cadets in extra white uniforms walking downhill towards the sea, which is just visible in the background, with a dark shadow and tree in the foreground. They march along a waterfront boardwalk, fully dressed , hats and all, and begin diving into the water. Side view shows the sailors in full uniform diving on mass into the water. M/S sailors in the water are picked up by boats - some hesitate to jump in the water, and are drenched by officers using a large fire hose, and forced in.
