Movie No 1 (1936)

Item title reads - Movie no. 1 An item showing early pictures which appear to move when placed in front of a revolving wheel. M/S of a picture set on a box, it is pulled out to reveal a wheel behind. Other pictures are slotted in and taken out. The wheel revolves and makes fountains and stars appear in the box. M/S as sand is poured in the top of the box, it catches the serrated edges of the wheel and keeps it turning. Different pictures light up, M/S of a bridge and tower. The words ’Vive La Royale Maison de Savoye’ appear on the screen. Note: Stephen Herbert of the Projection Box informs us that these optical sand boxes are extremely rare.
