Princess Mary (1927)

Item title reads: “ Princess Mary. Lays foundation stone of new Nurses’ home at Royal Infirmary.“ Manchester, England M/S of the princess, wearing a hat and fur trimmed coat, walking down a sloped walkway carrying a bouquet of flowers. A man in a three cornered naval style hat walks in front of her, carrying a mace on his shoulder. She is followed by an entourage of men and women, some in military uniform, some churchmen. The Princess watches the memorial stone being lowered from a cable and taps it into place in a wall. She inspects ranks of nurses, who wear longish dresses, white pinafores and traditional scarf style head caps. The nurses march past, watched by a large seated crowd.
