SLAM (featuring Jeff Scott Soto & George Bernhardt) - Wildflower (1993)
SLAM, an early 90’s band which featured singer Jeff Scott Soto, guitarist George Bernhardt (Lee Aaron, Beau Nasty, Rick Springfield), bassist Ricky Wolking & drummer Mark Bistany, covered this Skylark classic amongst their own songs. This is the original demo produced by Bernhardt on his Tascam Portastudio 488 Cassette 8-Tk Recorder/Mixer.
The group started in 1991 and disbanded by 1994 after a few variations and band member changes. This lineup was the final version but did not feature Bistany on drums as it was easier to program drums for sound quality given the means of how the demo was recorded.
JSS sings all lead and backing vox, Bernhardt plays all guitars and Wolking rounded it off with the bass.
“In 1972 in Victoria, Canada, a rookie policeman wrote a poem for his girlfriend while driving home in his police car. Dave “the Cop“ Richardson gave the poem to his friend David Foster, a young aspiring young musician looking for material for his new band, SKYLARK. Foster passed it along to Skylark guitarist Doug Edwards who set it to music. It was the first song Edwards had ever composed.
WILDFLOWER is one of the most performed songs in the history of Canadian popular music. Over 30 years it has sold multiple million copies in more than sixty versions. It’s been honored with a BMI Millionaire’s Award and SOCAN Classic and Crystal Awards. It is the song that launched David Foster’s career.
