’What a fine man he was’: Donald Trump pays touching tribute to rally shooting victim

Former US president Donald Trump paid a touching tribute to rally shooting victim Corey Compertore at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday. Firemen brought out a stand holding a fire helmet and a turnout coat bearing the words “Buffalo“ and “Compertore“. Trump arrived on stage, walking alongside the uniform, ahead of his first speech since surviving the attempted assassination. During his RNC address, Trump took a moment to approach the uniform and kiss the helmet, honouring the fallen fireman. “He was a highly respected former fire chief, respected by everybody – was accompanied by his wife, Helen, incredible woman I spoke to today. Devastated. And two precious daughters,“ he said. “He lost his life selflessly acting as a human shield to protect them from flying bullets. He went right over the top of them and was hit. What a fine man he was.“
