King Charles III welcomed to Balmoral in Scotland by Royal Guard of honour and pony 21st August 2023
King Charles III is welcomed by Alexander (Sandy) Manson, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Aberdeenshire, at the gates of Balmoral Castle in Deeside, Scotland. This was on Monday 21st August 2023 as King Charles III arrived for his summer residence.
Present were The Highlanders of 4 SCOTS Pipes and Drums and members of the Royal Guard from Balaklava Company, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion (5 SCOTS), under the Command of Major Robert Weir. Also present was a favourite of the late Queen, the Shetland pony Corporal Cruachan IV, mascot of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, who received a rub on the nose from the King, who was recently announced as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, succeeding his mother in the role.
This is the first time King Charles has has been officially welcomed to Balmoral by a guard of honour and inspected the troops outside the gates of Balmoral. This is a tradition when the Monach takes up residence at the castle during their summe
