Dr Francesca Leoni: ’​Portents, Presages and Predictions: Art and Divination in Pre-Modern Iran’

Building on the exhibition ‘Power and Protection: Islamic Art and the Supernatural’, this lecture uses a selection of fine objects and works of art to comment on the cultural significance of prophecy. Dr Leoni curated this exhibition, at the Ashmolean Museum, which was the first large-scale installation to consider the impact of divinatory and amuletic practices on Islamic art and material culture.
